Donald Hannan

Donald is the immediate Past President (1992-97) of the World Federation of Value Societies (WFVS). He was also an Inaugural Executive Committee Member (1990-1992) and official Australian Representative to that Federation. Donald is the Vice-President International of SAVE International and International Chapter President, a Certified Value Specialist~Life. He served on the SAVE Int'l. Certification Board from May 1990 to May 1997. Donald is also a Member of the SAVE Int. ISO Value Methodology Standards Committee. In November 2001 while in Tokyo he was awarded a Presidential Citation from Mr. Nobuo Tateisi, President of the Society of Japanese Value Engineering. He was also a Member of the Australian VM Standards Committee. Donald is a Founding Fellow, Institute of VE Australia (1977), now the Institute of Value Management Australia (IVMA) and served as Chairman of the International Committee until May 1997

Donald has been a full-time, professional Value Methodology Practitioner since 1972 and has been in the forefront of the development and introduction of new value methodology techniques and practices into the Australian workplace since 1972 and Internationally from 1989. Donald retired from the Department of Defence in March 1989 after some 27 years service, where he had been the DOD, Principal Value Analyst for the previous 17 years. As such he was involved in the development and application of VM Projects in all areas, viz. Construction, Manufacturing, Strategic Management, Research Programs and Design and Development Projects and the introduction of a formal Value Management Incentive Clause Program. Also the development, implementation (including lecturing) of a national VM training and Staff Development Program.

He is well known through out Australia and internationally as a Value Methodology Consultant, specialising in facilitation of: Conceptual Design and Development Programs, Strategic Value Methodology, Training and Creative Problem Solving Strategies. Having personally conducted in excess of 319 VM Training Courses and Workshops, ranging from 1 day to 10 weeks and >360 VM (Major) Projects in Australia, China, England, Hong Kong, Korea, Oman, Taiwan and the USA. In doing so he has trained over 6,000 people. Some 55of his papers have been published internationally, a number of which have been translated into Hungarian, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin and Taiwanese.

He was the technical adviser to the Defence Working Party which recommended the introduction of Value Management Incentive Clauses into Defence Contracting, which led to the establishment of that Department's Directorate of Value Management. In September 1989 he was engaged by Defence as the VM Consultant tasked with designing, developing and conducting a 10 week VM training program. The aim of which was to bring about the formal introduction of VM and Value Management Incentive Clauses into Defence contracts. Between 1975-89 Donald designed and developed a Hybrid Approach to Creative Problem Solving, also in 1984 he developed 2 new Value Engineering strategies which he named the "Value Review Team Study" and "Functional Worth Cost Reduction", which he introduced internationally via a Trilogy of FWCR Technical papers presented in Hong Kong, China, Japan, Taiwan and the USA during 1997-98. He also developed the Creative problem Solving Strategy, "A Hybrid Approach to Creativity" Donald is au fait with the latest Value Methodology developments in Australia and Internationally, having conducted a series of ongoing discussions in China, Hong Kong, Hungary, Japan, Korea, Oman, Taiwan, UAE, USA and the UK.
