Harold G. Tufty

Mr. Tufty has spent more than ninety percent of his professional life since 1964 in a variety of activities in Value Engineering. As President of Tufty & Associates he has led more than 500 SAVE-approved VE teams in studies for Government and the private sector in the USA, Europe, and Asia for construction, management, and manufacturing applications.

Since 1972 he has been, and still is, the editor and publisher of the Value Engineering & Management Digest, the only commercial publication in the world in English devoted primarily to Value Engineering and related disciplines. The Value Digest has served readers in more than 25 countries. Readers also often served as special VE correspondents.

For the Society of American Value Engineers (now SAVE International), Mr. Tufty has been a continual office holder both at the chapter and national levels. He has served two terms as President, and twice as the National Vice President for Communications. Also, since 1974 until 2000 he was the National Director for Federal Liason.

At the National Capital Chapter level he has held at some time each chapter office and has been a board member for more than 15 years. He is a Life Certified Value Specialist.

Over a twenty year period he chaired SAVE's biennial SAVE Congressional Educational Receptions held in the Caucus Room of the U.S. House of Representatives. Result: P.L. 104-106, Sec. 4306, the VE Law. Since the first Congressional hearings in 1968 he has either been a witness or provided staff assistance for all VE hearings in the Senate and House.

In 1979, he was the founding, and until his resignation in June 2003, was the President of the Lawrence D. Miles Value Foundation. It is an IRS-recognized 501(c)(3) private corporation whose goal is to expand the understanding and use of the Value Engineering methodologies to the benefit of society as a whole, world wide.

Author: Book - A Value Engineering Compendium, first edition published in Bombay in 1983, revised edition 1989; author of several articles on VE for USA and foreign trade press.

Professional Tithe: Each year from 1981 to 1996 - one month of professional lecturing time donated to public service in India giving VE seminars on Value Engineering. India now has a SAVE-approved national charter authorizing CVS certifications.
