Luis M. Venegas
Upon completing two years of active duty as a Vietnam veteran, Mr. Venegas worked for the firm of Carr Smith and Associates, Inc. in Coral Gables, Florida, where he was instrumental in the design of the Dade County Zoological Park designing the Quarantine Complex, Plant Nursery, Moat System, Nighthouses, and Monorail System.
He then moved to Virginia Beach, Virginia where he worked with the Naval Facilities Engineering Command at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard in Portsmouth, Virginia, as the Project Manager in charge of A-E design of federally funded military construction projects; a program of over $50,000,000. He was promoted to Assistant Acquisition Office for the design and construction of the east-coast TRIDENT Submarine Base; a $1.7 billion endeavor, at Kings Bay, Georgia. In this capacity, Mr. Venegas was the Program Manager for: Value Engineering (under his tutelage nearly $100,000,000 in savings were implemented), A-E Liability (created an environment that minimized design conflicts between designers and the government), and Liaison Officer for the Definition of Coastal Architectural Style (represented the navy at local, state and national levels (including to members of Congress and the Senate) for promulgating the architectural style at Kings Bay).
Upon substantial completion of the base, he returned to the private sector as the Value Engineering Program Director and Director of Business Development for Project Time & Cost in Atlanta, Georgia. He then joined the firm of Lewis & Zimmerman Associates, Inc. as a VE program manager conducting value engineering studies in a wide area of expertise and within a short period, he became a partner and Vice President with the firm. In 2005, LZA was sold to ARCADIS, an international engineering conglomerate where he is a Principal Engineer but retains his Vice Presidency with LZA.
Mr. Venegas holds an Associate of Arts degree from Miami-Dade Community College and a Bachelor of Science degree in Architectural Engineering from the University of Miami.
Mr. Venegas is a Professional Engineer licensed in Virginia; a Certified Value Specialist with SAVE International; and a LEED® Accredited Professional with the U.S. Green Building Council.
Mr. Venegas is a member of SAVE International having served as the Secretary of the Atlanta Chapter, Chairman of the Certification Board and was inducted into SAVE International’s College of Fellows. He is also a member of the Society of American Military Engineers, and the National and Georgia Societies of Professional Engineers.
